Congratulations to the dedicated scientists, innovators and educators recognised at the Prime Minister’s Prizes for Science in Parliament’s Great Hall last night. 👏
And special congrats to Swinburne University of Technology’s Professor Matthew Bailes, awarded the 2024 Prime Minister’s Prize for Science! 🏆
Whenever I see Australia’s science community gather and discuss their work, I’m struck by how genuinely collaborative and collegiate it is.
Professors Bailes heads up Swinburne University’s OzGrav, researching gravitational waves reaching us from huge, distant objects in the universe.
Accepting his award in the Great Hall, Professor Bailes said that while scientific discovery is often imagined to be the work of a ‘lone genius’, it is almost always the work of teams.
Teamwork matters. That’s why we’re proud to support Australia’s scientists and institutions, and to help foster new, diverse talent in the field.
🌏 For the pure discovery and understanding of our world scientists create.
🌏 And for the innovation we know will help power our economy and society through the transformations of the future as well.
Again, congratulations to Swinburne University, Professors Bailes and all the winners of the PM’s prizes.
