Closing the Loopholes II – one year on

This time last year, Labor closed more loopholes that were letting workers fall through the cracks of our industrial relations system.
Our Closing the Loopholes II reforms are world-leading and have brought Australia’s Fair Work system into the 21st century.
But more importantly, they are improving conditions and lifting wages for workers across Australia.
Our changes meant:
– A right to disconnect
– Protections for gig economy and road transport industry workers
– A fairer definition of casual employees
Last year, gig workers Zhaoying and Mugdha told me that their food delivery work was compromising their safety and ability to make a liveable wage.
This was unacceptable, and Labor’s changes mean workers in our gig economy like Zhaoying and Mugdha are now better protected.
And Caroline and Matt spoke to me about how the right to disconnect has made a world of difference for their work-life balance.
The tireless advocacy of unions and workers alike helped shape the Closing the Loopholes legislation.
And it’s great to meet with the workers and hear firsthand how these changes have benefited them.
