Labor is strengthening Medicare

Labor is strengthening Medicare, 40 years after the Hawke Labor government first introduced it.

And I’m proud to be here in Canberra, part of an Albanese Labor Government that’s defending this great reform for all Australians.

The promise of Medicare is a doctor for free when you need one, but we all know it’s gotten harder to find a bulk billing GP.

This Labor Government remembers that promise, and we’re determined to deliver it, by:

✅ Extending the bulk billing incentive we already tripled for pensioners and children to cover all Australians.
✅A new 12.5% loading on top of Medicare rebates to strongly incentivise clinics to fully bulk bill all patients.
✅More doctors and nurses with the largest new GP training program in Australian history.

After almost a decade of Liberal governments, these investments will restore bulk billing rates to 90 per cent by 2030, and triple the number of fully bulk billed clinics.

Again – I’m proud to be part of a Labor team with the determination to always defend and extend Medicare for all Australians.
