This piece of art is one of the first things you see when you walk into Bubup Wilam in Thomastown.

It was made by the children who attend this service, and its words ring true.

Building quality, universal early childhood education and care means building a better and fairer future for our country – where every child has the opportunity to thrive, and every family is supported.

And we can’t do that without Aboriginal community-controlled services like Bubup Wilam.

For many children, Bubup Wilam is the first culturally safe space they’ll know outside their homes – and spending those early years in a space that encourages them to develop pride in their Aboriginal identity and connection with culture is crucial grounding for their educational journey.

Thank you to Lisa and the team at Bubup Wilam for hosting Andrew Giles and myself, and sharing your important work with us.
