Home ownership inquiry fails to support home ownership

The Senate Economics References Committee inquiry into Home Ownership tabled its final report today, recommending various demand side policies to inflate house prices.
The Recommendations as presented by the chair would result in higher house prices for both first home buyers and owner occupiers, expose first home buyers to greater risks they cannot afford, and add risk to the financial system, all without building a single home.
It could not be clearer – supply is the answer to our housing constraints.
That is why the Albanese Government has committed $32 billion over the next decade to increase housing supply.
Labor is the party of homeownership, supporting 117,000 first home buyers through our expanded Home Guarantee Scheme. Our Help to Buy shared equity scheme will support another 40,000 Australians with a deposit of as little as 2 per cent.
Quotes attributable to Senator Jess Walsh:
“Senator Bragg has led a home ownership inquiry that fails to support home ownership.”
“The Coalition continues to focus on building demand rather than building homes.”
“Senator Bragg wants first home buyers to take on more risk, because his party won’t step up and take on the supply challenge.”
