Big news for a region that has powered our state for generations!
The first feasibility licences have been awarded for offshore wind projects in Gippsland.
This is a welcome milestone.
It means we’re one step closer to a new energy future for Gippsland, Victoria, and the nation.
And the jobs of the future too.
Gippsland has a strong history of generating power, and we know that legacy can continue with offshore wind.
Work conducted by Star of the South shows that hundreds of businesses in the region have capabilities to service the offshore wind industry.
And the existing coal power workforce has compatible skills and experiences.
In the Latrobe Valley, almost 70% of the mining and coal power workforce is a strong match with offshore wind jobs.
Our regions, and the highly skilled workers within them, are pivotal to our energy security.
And Gippsland is on the way to securing Australia’s renewable energy future.
