When it comes to this country’s housing challenges, supply is the answer. The Albanese Government’s support for the Build to Rent sector will see more homes built for renters in Australia.
The tax changes in the Build to Rent Bills 2024 incentivise investment in Australia’s emerging Build to Rent market, at a time when we need to build more homes.
The Bills require Build to Rent developments to provide affordable housing, with a view to housing moderate-income essential workers in well-located homes.
Witnesses emphasised that long-term leasing and tenancy arrangement create stability for tenants, assisting renters to save to purchase homes too.
The Senate Economics Legislation Committee today tabled its report, recommending that the Bills be passed.
Quotes attributable to Senator Walsh:
“We need more housing supply. It’s that simple. These tax changes will deliver more affordable homes for renters, and give them the security to save for a deposit too.”
“The Senate should pass these bills – anything else will delay the construction of more homes for Australians.”
