Women’s Budget conversation with the Hon. Katy Gallagher

As two weeks of Budget Estimates kick off today, we’ve got big reform to talk about!

Including how our May Budget puts women front and centre.

That was the topic when the Minister for Finance and Women joined me and dozens of advocates for working women.

As Katy Gallagher said, while our Government is 53% women, we are 100% committed to gender equality.

That’s why our Budget includes the historic step of paying superannuation on Paid Parental Leave.

This is a huge investment to support working parents as we move to 26 weeks of leave by 2026. And critically, it will help close the gender pay gap in retirement.

I’m so proud of our key measures to respect and recognize women and support their work:
💜 Provision for a long overdue pay rise for Early Childhood Educators.
💜 Prac Payments for social work, teaching, midwifery, and nursing students.
💜 Capping indexation and wiping HELP debts, a majority of which are held by women.
💜 A tax cut for all 6.5 million taxpaying women.

This is a Budget that works for women.

Thank you, Minister Gallagher, for sharing your insights.

And huge thanks to everyone who came along, and everyone who advocates for working women today.
