Superannuation on Paid Parental Leave has passed the Senate.
This is big news for Australian women!
Our changes:
– Deliver 12% superannuation on government paid parental leave from July 2025
– Build on our expansion of PPL to 26 weeks next year
– Help to close the 25% super retirement gap
These reforms are hard-won by women’s advocates and unionists.
And it takes Labor governments to deliver them.
It was feminist policy-maker Jenny Macklin who first legislated PPL back in 2011, as a member of the first government to be led by a woman – Prime Minister The Hon. Julia Gillard AC
Now the first majority-female federal government is building on that legacy.
Superannuation on PPL not only boosts women’s retirement savings.
Fundamentally, it values the critical place of caring in our society.
Congratulations to all the women who’ve spoken up for this change, and to two fantastic women Ministers – Katy Gallagher and Amanda Rishworth – for delivering it.
