Senate Estimates week is done.
I’ve got one key takeout from chairing 24 hours of questions to Ministers and Secretaries across 2 days.
And it’s not the extraordinary benefits of caffeine to our fantastic Senate Economics team.
It’s the extraordinary benefits of our resilient labour market to Australians, with:
💪🏼 1 million jobs created since Labor came to government
💲 Wages growing above inflation, at 4.1%
✅ Inflation now at 2.8%, a 4-year low
We’re a government that believes in good, secure jobs that pay well.
Because a decent job is the cornerstone of a decent life in this country.
Even more so, when times get tough.
When we came into office in May 2022:
⬇ Annual real wages growth was going backwards by 3.4%
📈 Inflation was 6.1% and climbing
❌ Low wages had been ‘a deliberate design feature’ for years
Today, good jobs are the firm foundation of our economic plan.
From pay rises and reform for undervalued workers in our feminised care economy.
To a future made in Australia maximising jobs in the shift to renewable energy.
We’re building Australia’s future together.
