This week Science Met Parliament!

And I absolutely loved being met, by some brilliant women scientists.

Did you know only 15% of people in STEM are women?

But these fabulous women are trailblazers.

Determined. Focussed. And also, very funny.

We talked about the joy and pain of finishing a PhD (if you’re doing one, keep going!).

And the challenges of taking time out of a competitive grants-based career to raise a family.

We want to see more women in STEM, and there’s much to do.

Huge congrats to these women on their already-brilliant careers:

Dr Maria Jelinic, La Trobe Senior Lecturer and Hypertension and Diabetes Research Division Lead for Cardiovascular Biology and Disease Research.

Dr Sarah Lenson, Research Fellow at the University of Melbourne, Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology.

Dr Victoria Wansink, Director of Microbiology at ACT Health.

Dr Emma Watson, Lecturer in Medicinal Chemistry at the University of Adelaide.

I can’t wait to see what they do next.
