DOORSTOP INTERVIEW
PARLIAMENT HOUSE, CANBERRA
TUESDAY 23 FEBRUARY 2021

SUBJECTS: PM is not standing up for women; women’s job and wages.

SENATOR JESS WALSH, SENATOR FOR VICTORIA: After just a day in Parliament, what we know is that a growing number of people in the Prime Minister's Office knew about the assault on Brittany Higgins.

What we also know is that a growing number of people are coming forward with complaints against the same perpetrator.

What many people are asking themselves today is - exactly what did Scott Morrison know about all of this?

What we do know about Scott Morrison is that he is not standing up for the women in his own party.

And he is not standing up for the women who work in this building.

So the women of Australia have to be asking themselves today, will he ever stand up for them?

We are twelve months into this pandemic and into the economic crisis that it created.

We know that it's women's jobs that have been hardest hit in this crisis, and so far, the Prime Minister has offered absolutely nothing for the working women of Australia in the recovery.

Instead, this week in the Parliament, Scott Morrison is trying to push legislation through the House that will actually hurt Australian women - that will cut their wages, and that will make their jobs less secure.

Scott Morrison is not standing up for women in his own party. He's not standing up for the women who work in this building. Australian women should be able to expect the Prime Minister to stand up for them.
